Renee Aless Martinez is a Houston-based artist who primarily works in both printmaking and digital drawing. Martinez utilizes non-traditional techniques, such as wheat pasting and digital drawing to produce collages that revive her connection to her Mexican American heritage and lack there of. Often exploring oppositions, Martinez creates a language of her own while depicting and decoding themes of gender, community, and her relationship with domesticity. With the use of overloaded pattern or overly saturated color, Renee Aless reveals personal anxieties and personal pleasures in the deconstruction of where she’s from.
Martinez received her BFA at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, majoring in printmaking. Participating in Public Art spaces such as Black Cat Alley only furthered her interest in the impact of community in her work. Post-graduation, Martinez has completed London Print Studio, an artist’s residency located in London, England and currently maintains a studio practice in her hometown of Houston, Texas where she is an active artist member at Burning Bones Press. OK RENEE OK is an art shop full of her latest creations.
